Straight teeth are easier to clean and give you a confident smile. Today there are more ways than ever to get there. At Nexus Dental Center in Ambattur we offer metal, ceramic and self-ligating braces as well as invisible aligners. Here is how they compare.

Metal braces

Stainless-steel brackets and wires. They are the most time-tested option and work for almost every case, including complex bite problems. They are visible, but modern brackets are smaller and more comfortable than before.

Ceramic braces

They work like metal braces but use tooth-coloured brackets, so they are far less noticeable. They suit adults and teens who want a discreet look with the control of fixed braces.

Self-ligating braces

These use brackets with a built-in clip instead of elastic ties, which can mean less friction and fewer adjustment visits for some patients.

Invisible aligners

A series of clear, removable trays custom-made from a digital scan of your teeth. Each set moves the teeth slightly until they reach the planned position.

Which one should you choose?

If you have a complex bite or crowding, or if a child is unlikely to wear removable trays consistently, fixed braces are often the most reliable. If you are an adult with mild to moderate crowding or spacing and want a discreet option, aligners can be ideal. Treatment usually takes anywhere from several months to around two years, depending on your case.

What is the best age for braces?

An early orthodontic check around age 7 helps spot jaw and bite problems early – see our myofunctional therapy page for children. But it is never too late: many of our patients start in their 20s, 30s or later.
